It’s been suggested to me in the planning stages that my trip is a little antiquities heavy and that a day somewhere more Baroque may be a nice break and a welcome surprise. Taking this advice I hop on a bus to Noto for the day.
Having not researched Noto much at all I was astounded to have accidentally waltzed up to the town on the first day of their weekend long annual flower festival. Fortune was favouring me today!
After arriving and a quick lunch of pizza topped with aubergines, (I cannot seem to get enough of them this trip…) I head along the pretty town for a leisurely wander.
As utterly captivating as Noto is, the focal point of the Infiorata Flower Festival is the Via Nicolaci. The street is famous for the stunning balcony details so I walk up and down the street twice, once for the architecture and once again to admire the petal art that carpets the floor of the street.
After the weekend the children of Noto run along the street kicking up the pictures, signifying renewal.
